X-RAYS INCREASE CANCER RISK
Shooting in the patient's organs by using X-rays and computed tomography (CT) scan is able to produce clear images. However, the use of X rays to trigger cancer risk.
A team of researchers from Wake Forest University in North Carolina studied a hospital in the United States that handle trauma patients. From the research found that the radiation dose given to trauma patients was excessive, so it can increase the risk for cancer. Thus quoted from Canada, Tuesday (4/3/2008).
James Winslow and other research team found that the average person living in the U.S. to get as much radiation beam 3 millisievert. While trauma patients get radiation beam of 40 millisievert.
"The doctors should be thinking long-term risks and benefits of examining patients using high-level radiation on either to check the head, neck, chest, abdomen and pelvis," said Winslow.
Winslow further added, "The alternatives can be taken to reduces the effects of such radiation by reducing the dose of radiation when taking pictures, use the other image capture methods, such as ultrasound (with sound waves) and magnetic resonance.
